TW wins 12th in row; Creek falls at home

The No. 4 area-ranked Woodlands High School varsity baseball team won its 12th consecutive game and improved to 9-0 in 15-5A play with a 2-0 victory at Klein Oak on Tuesday night.

The Highlanders, 19-2 on the season, sent Brad Depoy (7-1 overall, 5-0 in district), who was coming off back-to-back no-hitters to the hill. Depoy would go all seven innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out nine and walking one. The lone hit came in the third inning. Depoy now has 87 strikeouts in 46 innings. For Klein Oak, Drew Brown took the loss, falling to 5-4 on the season. Brown went the distance, allowing eight hits, while striking out six. TWHS got its runs in the fifth inning. After Danny Amendola led off with a single, Matt Ghigna walked. Shea Robin would then reach on a bunt to load the bases. After one out, Elliot Roberts grounded out, bringing in Amendola, with the second baseman then throwing wildly to first, allowing Ghigna to make it 2-0. At the plate for the Highlanders, Amendola and Roberts doubled. Aaron Cook, Robin, Amendola and Danny Lehmann all singled. TWHS plays again Friday at home against Spring at 7 p.m. on Teacher Appreciation Night. Livingston 4, Caney Creek 3 The Caney Creek High School varsity baseball team fell to Livingston 4-3 in District 19-4A play on Tuesday night. The Panthers, now 5-11 on the year, sent Alex DeBoard (3-4-1) to the mound and he went seven innings, allowing eight hits and no walks, while striking out nine. Two of the runs were earned. Justin Smith got the win, going 4 1/3 innings before being relieved by Anthony Vallejo, who got the save. Livingston and Creek are both 1-4 in district play. Creek went up 1-0 in the first inning when Blair James, who had led off with a single, scored on Clay Adams' RBI. James, who would single again, would also score in the third on an Adams double and would score again in the seventh after a single and a passsed ball. Livingston scored two runs in each of the third and fifth innings. At the plate for Creek, Adams was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Logan Jones was 1-for-3 with a double. |
