Highlanders Blank Westfield Mustangs 5-0
On a night when TWHS sophomore bats were anything but
impressive, pitcher Chris Frey scattered three hits while striking out eight Westfield batters
shutting down the Mustangs, 5-0. Frey allowed only one runner to reach third
base during his six inning stint on the mound while reliever Derek Smith fanned
three in the seventh.
Able to muster only six hits on the evening, the Highlanders
made all of them count. In their initial at-bat, Kirby Kirchner’s double drove
in Frey, who had singled with two outs.
In the home half of the fifth, Cody Harmon reached first on
an error, Robbie Ray tripled to plate Harmon, and Frey doubled in Ray. Paul
Goldschmidt came off the bench to park one over the left-center fence to
complete the scoring for the Highlanders.
The win improved the sophs 15-5A record to 10-2 and the
season slate to 13-3.
