Highlanders fall at Bellaire
From staff reports May 04, 2003
One bad inning did in The Woodlands High School baseball team as the Highlanders lost 4-3 at Bellaire in a playoff tune-up game Friday night.
The Cardinals overcame a 3-0 deficit as they scored four unearned runs off TWHS's Jordan Dodson in the sixth inning. Dodson allowed just one hit in the inning as he came on in relief of starter Brad Depoy. Depoy struck out 11 as he gave up no runs on one hit in five innings of work.

The Highlanders took the lead in the fourth as Jordan Roberts got a basehit and stole second and third before scoring on an error.

Matt Ghigna then got a hit and scored on a Danny Lehmann high fly ball that dropped between three Bellaire defenders. Lehmann reached second on the play.

In the fifth inning, Shea Robin doubled while Macias reached on a fielder's choice. Macias then scored on a Jordan Roberts' single.

The Highlanders, who outhit Bellaire 9-3, threatened in the top of the seventh as Lehmann got a single and was sacrificed to second by Robin. Macias then got a hit and Elliot Roberts sacrificed the runners over to second and third. Jordan Roberts then hit a come-backer to the pitcher to end the game.

Earlier this week, the Highlanders knocked off Stratford 5-1 in another tune-up game.

Paul Goodwin got the start and the victory as he pitched the first three innings. Tyler Soeder threw the next three before Dodson closed it out.

Danny Amendola and Trent Elizondo each homered in the game for The Woodlands.

The Highlanders have a bye for the bi-district round because they won the District 15-5A title. They will face the winner of the Belton-Leander series next week in the area round.
