Jordan Dodson picked up his fourth win of the season, allowing five runs on four hits in five innings, while striking out nine and walking four. Shea Robin struck out four and didn't allow a run in two innings of work to close things out. TWHS is now 15-1 on the season, while Collins drops to 6-8. The Highlanders play again Friday at Klein Oak at 7 p.m. At the plate, David Macias was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Dodson helped his own cause, going 2-for-3 with a homer and four runs batted in. Danny Lehmann added to the attack, going 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs and three walks, while Danny Amendola was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Robin 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double. Matt Ghigna added a hit and knocked in two runs. The Highlanders scored four runs in each of the first, fourth and fifth innings. In the first, Macias, Robin (RBI) and Amendola all doubled, with Dodson contributing a three-run homer. Collins took a 5-4 lead through three innings, with Jared Hill connected on a pair of home runs to lead the Tiger attack. However, the Highlander heavy hitters were at it again in the fourth, when John Hopkins singled to start a four-run outburst. Lehmann's bases-loaded walk scored a run, with Dodson following with an RBI-single. Ghigna's hit then brought home two runs and TWHS led 8-5. In the fifth, Shea Walker started another four-run burst with a double. Robin later had an RBI-single, with Lehmann drawing an intentional walk. Amendola would bring home two runs a bit later with a double. The Highlanders capped the scoring with two runs in the sixth, with Macias and Lehmann (double) adding RBIs. Chris Cook entered the game and hit a ball hard, but lined out to third. Montgomery 7, Navasota 3
"I'm happy with the win," said Montgomery head coach Clint Heard. "But, we're also grounded enough to know that we need to be more consistent. Consistency is how you win ball games." Andrew Clarke got the win on the mound. He was the third pitcher of the night, following Cody Springer. Spencer Hylander got the start. Michael Heard pitched the sixth, with James Schroeder pitching the seventh. The Bears (4-7) trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the third. Heard singled in Drew Tucker, who had walked, to knot things up. Montgomery broke things open in the bottom of the fifth, scoring six runs on six hits after two outs. The big blows were delivered by Heard (RBI-single), Shan Sullivan (two-RBI double off left-field wall). Sullivan knocked in courtesy runner Chris Harris and Brandon Allen, who had doubled, to make it 4-1. Dustin McCandless' single to right brought home Sullivan and McCandless would score on an error. Schroeder doubled off the left-field wall, scoring courtesy runner Travis Cooper. Montgomery plays again Thursday in the Waco Midway Tournament against Sherman at 5 p.m. |
