The Highlanders opened up with a 10-0 victory over Houston Chavez. Jared Garza went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Highlanders with five RBIs including a 3-run home run as The Woodlands won in five innings. Kyle Drabek added a pair of doubles in the victory.
Taylor Davis earned the win on the mound as he tossed a one-hitter in five innings of work. The senior struck out seven and walked one.
The Highlanders kept the bats going in their second game as they defeated San Antonio Clark 8-1 in a six-inning affair. Kyle Walker went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run while Mickey Armstrong added a solo blast.
Brice Ary came on in relief and surrendered the lone run run.
In other games Friday at Scotland Yard, Leander defeated Houston Chavez 4-1, Klein Oak blanked Klein Forest 6-0, and Leander cruised by San Antonio Clark 10-3.
At Oak Ridge, the War Eagles began the day by blanking Willis 9-0. The Wildkats then came back to tie Waller 5-5. Trey Hogan had three hits and T.J. Wiggins a pair of doubles for Willis in that game.
Conroe splits
The Conroe baseball squad split a pair of games at the Humble Tournament on Friday.
The Tigers lost their opener 6-0 to Clear Creek. Andrew Cashner took the loss as he gave up five earned runs in almost four innings of work.
Conroe then rebounded to bash Sam Rayburn 16-2 in five innings. Sean Meyers and Cashner both had home runs in the game. Meyers finished the game going 3-for-3 with three RBIs while Cashner was 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Andrew Cooley was also 3-for-4 with three RBIS while Derek Causey went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Beau Ballard earned the victory on the mound as he pitched all five innings, striking out two, walking two and giving up two runs on five hits. Ballard received some help from his defense as Causey made a nice, diving catch in the right field foul area.
Conroe plays Kingwood at 12:30 today before meeting Hannan, La. at 5:30.
