Highlander Sophomore White record 5-1 with 12-2 victory over Oak Ridge

The Highlander Sophomore White team capped off a successful weekend by winning the New Caney Tournament. The Highlanders rolled into the finals, posting a 15-2 victory over Aldine and an 11-8 victory over Huntsville. Matt Frantes pitched a complete game in the Aldine victory and Ross Patterson and Michael Marino combined for the win over Huntsville. The two wins set up the championship game with Oak Ridge Saturday night. The Highlanders overwhelmed Oak Ridge scoring six runs in the first inning in route to a 12-2 run rule victory. David Stevenson pitched five strong innings giving up only two runs. Thornton Tucker closed the game with a three-strikeout sixth inning. Offensive stars in the championship game were SS Brooks McMinn (2-3, 1 double, 3 RBI), C Chad Williams (3-5, 1 RBI), P David Stevenson (3-5, 2 RBI), LF Austin Adamcik (1-3, 2 RBI), 2B Brent Benoit (1-3), CF Michael Marino (1-3, 1 double, 2 RBI) and RF Ross Patterson (2-4, 2 RBI). Defensively, 2B Benoit, SS McMinn and C Williams had good plays.
The Highlanders take the field again this Saturday with a doubleheader with Sam Houston at Scotland Yard.
