At the plate for TWHS, Brice Ary and Mickey Armstrong each homered, while Andrew Kainer was 2-for-4 and Andrew Cooley had an RBI-single for the Tigers in the bottom of the sixth.
Stephan Darnell took the loss for the Tigers.
"We didn't play bad," said CHS head coach Frank Ro-mero. "We had some opportunities early and didn't take advantage of them. The few mistakes we made, they jumped on them. They also got some big two-out hits. I tip my hat to them. Kyle Drabek has some great stuff. We have to regroup and get ready for Oak Ridge."
Oak Ridge 11, K. Forest 1
Kyle Henson hammered three home runs and Jay Haak tossed a one-hitter as the War Eagles downed Klein Forest 11-1 in five innings at home on Tuesday night.
New Caney 4, Willis 3
It was a typical New Caney and Willis baseball battle Tuesday night as the District 18-4A contest wasn't decided until the final inning when the Eagles held off a late Wildkat rally to earn a 4-3 victory.
New Caney struck first in the third inning as Allen Mitchell led off with a double and later scored on an error. The Wildkats would even the score in their half of the third as Trey Hogan singled and later advanced to third on an error. Matt Taylor then knocked him home with a two-out single.
In the fifth, the Eagles went ahead for good as Grady Smith hit a solo home run to give NCHS a 2-1 advantage. Thats the way the score would be until the seventh.
In their final at-bat, Smith led off with a single for the
Eagles and his courtesy runner Justin Votaw went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mitchell. Votaw then advanced to third on a ground out by Eric Natalie and came home on a balk. With two outs, Andrew Riddick singled and Jared Smith drove him home with a double.
The extra insurance runs would prove to be needed as Willis would not go down without a fight. With one out, Brett Edwards singled to left and T.J. Wiggins singled through the left side of the infield. Taylor then doubled to plate Edwards. At that point Musick went to his bullpen as Michael Miller came on in relief of Dean. Miller would give up an RBI double to Mike Pawalowski but after an intentional walk to Shlelby Cannon, the Eagle reliever would get a strikeout and a pop out to end the threat and the game.
With the win, New Caney improves to 11-8 and 5-1 in 18-4A
while Willis falls to 9-7 and 3-3.
Montgomery 4, Brenham 1
In a battle between the top two teams in the Class 4A
Power Poll, the Montgomery baseball team used a clutch two-out hit from Corey Spaugh to bring home a 4-1 victory from Brenham Tuesday night.
The Bears, motivated after the Cubs took over the top spot from them in the weekly rankings, scored all their runs in the fourth as Cody DuPlantis led off with a single.
Michael Heard then doubled and after one out Chase Moore hit an RBI single. James Schroeder walked and after a pick-off play at first, Dustin McCandless drew another walk to load the bases. Spaugh then came through with a two-out, bases-clearing double to left center.
Pitcher Bobby Stone would make the four runs stand up as the freshman limited the Cubs to just one run on three hits while striking out 11 in a complete-game performance.
"I think it was the best game we've played all year," said Montgomery coach Clint Heard. "We were very focused with a lot of good at bats. Their short stop made a of couple big plays. Bobby Stone threw strikes and we played good defense behind him."
Montgomery improves to 17-4 on the year and 5-1 in District 18-4A. The Bears are now in a three-way tie for first-place with the Cubs and New Caney.
"No one win is bigger than any other," said Heard. "We've got a tough Willis team to play Friday night."
