Junior Varsity Goes To 6-0 With Win Over Lufkin
April 1, 2005
| The Highlander JV used good pitching, defense and timely hitting to beat a tough Lufkin team by the score of 3-1. The Highlander JV remains undefeated in District with a record of 6-0 (13-2 overall). The Highlanders overcame a strong pitching performance by the Panther pitcher (14 Ks) but took advantage of 5 Panther errors. Taylor Parr (6-1.gif/3 IP, 5 K, 7 BB, 2 H, 1 ER) pitched 6 strong innings to get his second win in District and Colton Mckey got his first save by retiring the last two batters in the bottom of the seventh with a strike out and a ground out. |

Offensively, the Highlanders used aggressive base running and timely
hitting to manufacture enough runs for the win. Marco Peņa scored the
first run of the game after getting on with a walk and advancing to 3rd
on two stolen bases. An error by the shortstop allowed Bryan Byers (1
for 4, single, 1 RBI) to get on and Peņa to score. Ryan Mooney went 2
for 4 (triple, single) and scored the only other earned run following a
single to left field by Byers. Others registering hits from the stingy
Panther pitcher were Colby Dodson (1 for 3), Kyle Bouthilet (1 for 4)
and Ryan Turner (1 for 3). |
