Highlander Makes Good in Europe

May 30, 2005

Cairo, Egypt -- Will Sims, former sophomore team player moved to Cairo, Egypt in 2004 after his first TWHS season. Moving to the Middle East was a bit disconcerting. However, one bright spot was the Cairo American College's baseball program. In fact, twelve European and Middle Eastern international schools play a 30 year old tournament known as the International Schools Sport Tournament (ISST) each year.

This year, Brussels, Belgium hosted the twelve teams entered into the 2005 tournament. The teams came from schools in England, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Israel, France, Germany and Egypt. The former Highlander player won the European championships with two complete games pitched (semi-finals and finals) and batted .545 with one home run. Will was named to the ISST European All Tournament Team for 2005. He credits his arm strength and hitting to TWHS off-season program. The tough TWHS regimen of swimming and running definitely helped Will have a stand-out season away from his "home town" team.

Will can be reached at simst@bp.com if you'd like to say hello.
