All good things come to an end and Saturday afternoon the Woodlands Highlanders finally lost a baseball playoff series. Not since 2005 have the Highlanders be been eliminated from the post season, but it had to happen sooner or later.

After winning the whole enchilada last season, The Woodlands made a gallant effort to win back-to-back state championships, but after forcing a deciding game-three, the Georgetown Eagles ended the great Highlander run by defeating them, 7-3.

"I really believe that winning a state title in baseball is the toughest thing to accomplish in high school sports,"
Highlanders skipper, Ron Eastman, said before this series got under way. "There are so many games and you have to play them back-to-back. It really is difficult."

After opening the best-of-three series with a 7-6, extra inning loss, TWHS fought back and won game two to force the elimination game.

The Woodlands took an early 1-0 lead after the second inning and Colby Dodson ended the game by going 2-for-2 at the plate and reached a third time on a walk. Mickey Armstrong had a double and Taylore Grote had two RBIs on the day.

Tyler Spurlin, the starting pitcher for The Woodlands, kept a lid on the Eagles offense for four innings, but in the fifth he was roughed up for five runs. In the fifth and sixth inning, the Eagles continued to expand their lead and the Highlanders faced a four run deficit (7-3) in their final at bat.

It was not meant to be.

For the game, the Eagles and Highlanders each had seven hits and Highlanders committed two errors in the field.
Georgetown, the fourth place team from its district, will advance to the Regional semifinals.
