Higlander Baseball Golf Tournament
Monday, December 3rd, 2007
The Home Run Club will be hosting a golf tournament on Monday, December
3rd at Canongate at The Woodlands – The Oaks Course. The tournament
format will be a 4-Man Florida Scramble with a shotgun start at 12:30 PM.
Registration will begin at 11:30 AM. We are asking every family to put together a foursome with your friends and
colleagues, and come out and play in the tournament. More

SAN DIEGO - The Phillies
suffered a major blow yesterday, but they say they don't think it's
fatal. They announced that righthander Kyle Drabek, the team's No. 1
draft pick in 2006 and the organization's No. 2 prospect according to
Baseball America, will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow

from TWHS head to Sam Houston
Three former The
Woodlands High School baseball players, all part of their 2006 5-A
Championship team, are signed to become Sam Houston State Bearkats
this fall. Right-handed pitcher Jerad Stevens, shortstop Ryan
Mooney, and third basemen Tim Schneider have all signed their
letters of intent to play for Coach Mark Johnson at Sam Houston State

All-state
baseball team announced
Nine
Montgomery County high school standouts, including six from The
Woodlands, earned their way onto the 2007 Texas Sports Writer's
Association All-State Baseball Teams. The Woodlands, which made it
to the regional quarterfinals, has a pair of third-team all-state
players in catcher Mickey Armstrong (.355) and outfielder Brett
Eibner (.417, 6 HRs). Eibner was the fourth-round pick of the
Houston Astros as a pitching prospect, while Armstrong is headed to
Texas Tech on a baseball scholarship.

Stars: Highlander standout receives MVP award
Recent The
Woodlands High School graduate Tim Schneider was one of the leading
hitters in the greater Houston area this spring. Schneider, who will
compete collegiately at Sam Houston State University with teammates
Jerad Stevens and Ryan Mooney, led the Highlanders with a .422 average.

Derek Smith's dramatic two-run walk-off home run into the Crawford Boxes in the bottom of the seventh inning gave No. 1 state-ranked The Woodlands High School varsity baseball team a scintillating 4-2 victory over Bellaire in the opening round of the Astros High School Classic at Minute Maid Park on Thursday afternoon.

Highlander baseball will hold its second annual
Holiday Reach Out event on Sunday, December 18th. Players will
visit the families of children with disabilities to introduce Highlander
baseball, provide information on Challenger and to drop off a few small

Former TWHS baseball coach takes top position at Lamar
A familiar face to Montgomery County baseball fans has decided to rejoin the high school coaching ranks five years after bringing a state crown to The Woodlands.
Mike McGilvray, who has served as the volunteer assistant coach at Sam Houston State Univ the past two seasons, stepped down soon after taking an underdog Highlander team to the state crown in 2000.

Kyle Drabek has been named the Class 5A player of the year for the state by the Texas Sports Writer Association.
On a day when he helped The Woodlands 7-on-7 football team reach the quarterfinals of the state tournament, Kyle Drabek was honored for his baseball exploits by being named the
Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 5A player of the year.

Drew Dickson (2002) Signs With The Chicago
Cubs
TWHS Class of 2002 standout, Drew Dickson, signed with the Chicago Cubs on June 24th and is now pitching with the Cubs’ Class “A” ball club,
Peoria Chiefs, in Peoria, Illinois. Drew has been pitching in a mid-reliever role and already has 5 appearances and a respectable 2.45 ERA in his first two weeks with the club.

Will Sims, former sophomore team player moved to Cairo, Egypt in 2004 after his first TWHS
season. Moving to the Middle East was a bit disconcerting. However, one
bright spot was the Cairo American College's baseball program.

TWHS with late HR
The Rockwall pitching staff cooled off the hot bats of The
Woodlands High School baseball team and the Yellowjackets
got an unexpected home run to edge the Highlanders 3-2 in
game one of their Region II-5A semifinal series Friday night
at Kilgore's Driller Park.
The Woodlands, who had 58 hits and 42 runs
in their first four playoff games, were held to just two
runs on three hits by Yellowjacket starter James Leverton
and reliever Michael Menges.

Orwall Challenger plans to send a
team to participate in the 2nd Annual East Texas
Jamboree in Clear Lake on Saturday, June 11th.
The Jamboree hosts Challenger teams from across the
east half of the State, and includes games, fun and
friendship. Challenger has invited any
Highlanders that can attend to go along and
participate in the games and help as 'buddies'. Please

Junior College in Florida next year. The Pirates were
the 2004 Florida State Junior College Champions in 2004, and are
known to be one of the most competitive junior college programs

Alumni Update --
It was
announced this week that Aaron Cook (TWHS '03) was
selected second team All Pacific International League shortstop
for his play this summer. The Pacific
International League is an eleven team amateur wood bat
league whose rosters are dominated by players from the Pac 10.
In 147 at bats, Cook (who played for the Kelowna
Falcons) hit .327 with 48 hits (6th in the
league). |
| On
defense, Aaron finished second in the league with 104 assists.
In addition, Cook recently received word that he had been
recognized as an Academic All American and chosen to be a member
of the Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll
for his work in the classroom his freshman year. Aaron will be
attending Panola Junior College this season. |

... Aaron Cook (Woodlands,
’03) was selected to the all tournament team in the All-American
Invitational in Portland, Oregon (July 15-18). In the five games of
the tournament, Cook hit .438 (7 for 16) with a .563 slugging pct, and
5 RBI’s. The amateur tournament featured twelve teams from Northern
California, Southern California, Idaho, British Columbia, and the
Seattle and Portland areas. At stake in the tournament was an
automatic berth in the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series
in Wichita, Kansas in August. Cooks team, the Kelowna Falcons (B.C.,
Canada) was defeated in the finals by the host Aloha Knights by a

baseball team's playoff express as Cy Falls rallied for a 9-4
victory in game two on Saturday and then eliminated the

Varsity (29-2) defeats Spring
Lions 6-1 at Klein Oak Monday night to take the top play-off
seed in District 15-5A. Sophomore Kyle Drabek
threw six strong innings for the win while Kyle Walker closed
out the game in the seventh inning. Home runs by
Drabek and Wayne Hrozek were part of an 8 hit
Highlander offense. The Highlanders will play next on
Friday in a practice game against Kingwoog HS.
