The Woodlands Highlanders have made a habit of feasting off District 14-5A opponents in recent years and this week they will face the district's fourth place team, Georgetown High School, for the Regional quarterfinals in the state playoffs.

Over the past two seasons, TWHS (30-4) has posted a 13-1 playoff record and the lone loss came last week at the hands of Round Rock, another District 14-5A school.
The Highlanders made up for the loss by defeating Round Rock in game three to advance.

"We were disappointed in the loss the other night," Highlander head coach Ron Eastman said. "We left 13 runners on base in that game and the players knew we just needed a couple of key hits to win that game. Round Rock had two big home runs and they were able to get the win."

According to Coach Eastman, the starting pitcher for Thursday's opening game is undetermined. However, the starting rotation of Jerad Stevens, Brett Eibner and sophomore Tyler Spurling has worked well for the Highlanders and a change this late in the season would be a surprise and uncharacteristic of TWHS.

Georgetown boasts Runey Davis and Connor Rowe in the outfield (two future Texas Longhorns) and even though they finished fourth in district play, they are the only team still competing from what Coach Eastman described as "one of the toughest baseball districts in the state".

The Highlanders will welcome back All-State performer David Alleman to the mix of bench players this week and with a core of left-handed pitchers for the Eagles, the switch-hitter will be a welcome addition to the team.

"Alleman gives us some punch off the bench, but in a game like this we need to make sure we keep Davis and Rowe off the bases," Eastman said. "They have great speed. We're going to have to do a good job of checking the runners."

The Highlanders have captured five consecutive district championships and according to the coaching staff, this team has worked hard all season and they are motivated to try and win back-to-back state championships.
Game one will be played at Bryan High School, Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
