All-state baseball team announced
Nine Montgomery County high school standouts, including six from The Woodlands, earned their way onto the 2007 Texas Sports Writer's Association All-State Baseball Teams. The Woodlands, which made it to the regional quarterfinals, has a pair of third-team all-state players in catcher Mickey Armstrong (.355) and outfielder Brett Eibner (.417, 6 HRs). Eibner was the fourth-round pick of the Houston Astros as a pitching prospect, while Armstrong is headed to Texas Tech on a baseball scholarship. More... [Top] |

Recent The Woodlands High School graduate Brett Eibner moved to Texas two years ago and made an impact on two powerful Highlander varsity baseball teams. A few years down the road, he could be making an impact on another Texas team - the Houston Astros. Eibner, a member of the 2006 TWHS 5A state and national champion squad and also the state-ranked 2007 team, was selected in the fourth round of the pro baseball draft on Thursday by the Astros. Highlanders dominate All-District team
The Woodlands High School placed 12 players on the 15-5A first and second All-District baseball teams. Senior third baseman Tim Schneider was voted the district's Most Valuable Player. "As a coaching staff, we don't vote on our own kids," Woodlands Coach Ron Eastman said. "It was hard for us to pick an MVP candidate. The Woodlands title defense falls short
All good things come to an end and Saturday afternoon the Woodlands Highlanders finally lost a baseball playoff series. Not since 2005 have the Highlanders be been eliminated from the post season, but it had to happen sooner or later. After winning the whole enchilada last season, The Woodlands made a gallant effort to win back-to-back state championships, but after forcing a deciding game-three, the Georgetown Eagles ended the great Highlander run by defeating them, 7-3. Round rocked: Highlanders slay Dragons, prepare for Eagles
The Woodlands High School baseball team advanced to the third round of the state playoffs with an 8-4 win over Round Rock in the deciding third game of the Area round series at A&M Consolidated Saturday afternoon. The win sends The Woodlands into a third round series with Georgetown who beat Lufkin in two games. The Highlanders will play the Eagles today at 7:30 p.m. at Bryan High School's field. Highlanders hunt Eagles
The Woodlands Highlanders have made a habit of feasting off District 14-5A opponents in recent years and this week they will face the district's fourth place team, Georgetown High School, for the Regional quarterfinals in the state playoffs. Over the past two seasons, TWHS (30-4) has posted a 13-1 playoff record and the lone loss came last week at the hands of Round Rock, another District 14-5A school. The Highlanders marched into the Astros High School Classic as contenders, but walked out champions on Saturday night as The Woodlands topped defending state champion Kingwood 9-1 at Minute Maid Park. The Woodlands High School baseball team's seventh inning rally was snuffed out by the Klein Bearkats as the Highlanders lost 7-4 on Friday night at Scotland Yard. Several Conroe High School baseball players and The Woodlands High School baseball players have been honored for their fine season with all-district selections. The 15-5A all district team was voted on by the coaches of district 15-5A. The coach of the year and most valuable player came for the 5A state champion Highlander squad. COLLEGE STATION - Another nailbiter in the postseason for The Woodlands High School baseball team resulted in another win for the Highlanders. A bases-loaded bloop single over a drawn-in infield by freshman Aaron Cook in the bottom of the eighth inning gave TWHS a 2-1 win over Lufkin in the first game of a best-of-three Region II-5A final at Texas A&M University's Olsen Field.
